Digital Cinema Rentals was created to support the community and is introducing a new sponsorship fund for 2026, to inspire the growth of low-budget, independent film on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. 

The Digital Cinema Rentals Memorial Fund is dedicated to the memory of Chris Mock of Cormorant Pictures, cinematographer and photographer Dean Azim, Mike Walker of Roll.Focus. and others in our film, video and photography community who have passed away in recent years. It's designed to inspire filmmakers to create and provide the means that might be holding them back from otherwise doing so, by providing the gear necessary to realize their film ideas.

Digital Cinema Rentals is awarding select filmmakers with up to:

$500 in rental credit

towards the creation of a scripted film being shot on Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands. If the gear rental goes above the $500 credit, the production is responsible for paying the difference, essentially making this a $500 credit towards a bigger rental.

Please note: the Memorial Fund is for filmmakers in need who are making scripted, low-budget, narrative films and who are shooting the film on the Island or the Gulf Islands. Documentary films, music videos, podcasts, commericals, corporate videos or reality series are not covered by the fund. Gear availability will be dependent on what the production requires and what’s in stock for the shoot days requested. Producers are responsible for having the necessary insurance in place to cover the replacement cost of the gear being rented.
